Jane McKell Muse was my great-great grandmother.

Jane was born April 23rd 1821; the daughter of William & Elizabeth [née Bell] McKell from Monticello, Fairfield District, South Carolina. Her parents were Scotch-Irish Presbyterians who were associated with the growth of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian (A.R.P.) Churches throughout early America. Jane's father William, originally from County Armagh, Ireland, was a church elder at Ebenezer A.R.P. Church, also known as 'Old Brick Church' in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. A few years after the death of her father; Jane, her mother and siblings: David, Nancy and James moved to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi near Starkville. There, Jane's mother along with a number of her Montgomery & Bell relatives, were charter members of the Starkville A.R.P. Church, organized in 1840.

On October 4th 1843 Jane McKell married Robert Muse. There were eight known children born to this union:
William McKell (1845-1845)
Jane McKell "Mackie" (1847-1922)
Rev. Joseph Brainard (1848-1920)
Elizabeth Bell "Lizzie" {m. Alston}(1850-1924)
Nancy Rebecca {m. Williams}(1852-1902)
William Montgomery (1855-1867)
Infant (1857-1857)
Mary "Mollie" {m. Alston}(1858-1938)

Jane McKell Muse departed this life on the 22nd of August, 1888 attaining the age of 67 years, 3 months and 29 days.

Gravesite Details

D.P., the writer of her obituary, was Rev. David Pressly, D.D.; pastor of Starkville A.R.P. Church for over 40 years.
