"Departed this life on the 22nd of August, 1888 in the vicinity of Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, Mrs. JANE MUSE, wife of Mr. Robert Muse. Her mother, the widow McKell, was a sister of our worthy and still surviving friend, Mrs. Hugh (Aunt Ibby) Montgomery, also a sister of the late Charles, Hugh and Robert Bell. Mrs. Muse was born in Fairfield County, S.C., on the 23rd of April 1821. She had attained the age of 67 years, 3 months and 29 days. About the year 1835, she removed in company with her mother and many endeared kindred to Oktibbeha County, Miss. Some time after the organization of the A.R.P. church in Starkville, she made a profession of her faith in Christ and became a member of the congregation. She was married on the 4th of October, 1843, to Mr. Robert Muse. The writer formed her acquaintance in the year 1842, and during the prolonged pastorate of forty-three years can testify to the genuineness of her faith the sincerity of her repentance and the uniformity of her Christian obedience. Her practical godliness was exemplified in every department of life. A loving and efficient wife, a devoted mother, an obliging neighbor and an earnest follower of the Lamb. In the persons of her five surviving children she has left a memorial of herself more lasting than a monument of marble or brass. Her last sickness was lingering, embracing even months and years. Her mind was clear and her spirit resigned. With her lamp trimmed and burning, she awaited the time of her final dissolution. In God's good time she passed quietly away as one going to sleep. An affectionate husband, an only son (Rev. J. B. Muse) and four devoted daughters with numerous grandchildren are lamenting her departure. "They are gathering fast on the other side, The friends we have loved of yore, They have launched their bark on shadowy tide, And entered the shining shore. From the church below to the church above They are passing--(a glorious band.) And the Father welcomes them all in his love, To the joys of the heavenly land." D.P.
