Frances (Sisisky) Alport, 92, of 780 Converse St., died Friday peacefully at home. She was born on December 20, 1914 in Enfield, CT the daughter of Nathan and Sarah Sisisky. Frances was the last surviving of ten children. She graduated from Enfield High School Class of 1932. She graduated from Enfield High School Class of 1932. She graduated from Smith College Class of 1936, majoring in Psychology and then continued on to the Smith College School for Social Work, where she was granted a Masters of Social Work. She trained in Psychiatric social work at the Department of Public Welfare in Rochester, NY and the Institute for Juvenile Welfare in Chicago, IL. Her thesis was published in the Smith College Studies in Social Work and was refered to in the book Psychiatric Clinics for Children. She worked at Jewish Family Welfare in Roxbury, MA, Family Service and Society in Hartford, CT, and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Frances was involved with Temple Beth El United Hebrew School where she formerly was the secretary and had served on their Board of Directors. She was also a member of Temple Beth El's Choir, and was thrilled when she sang with special guest Jan Pierce. She was a volunteer at Baystate Medical Center, the social chairman of the Smith College Alumni Assn., and was a docent at the Springfield Science Museum. Frances was a longtime member of Temple Beth El and their Sisterhood. She was very active in politics, belonging to the Longmeadow Democratic Town Committee. She had worked for numerous campaigns from the 1960's until her death. She capped her political career with a call from Gov. Deval Patrick this past Saturday evening when he stepped out of the reception line at Symphony Hall to phone her and thank her for her hard work. She was a member of the Mass. Citizens Against the Death Penalty, where she was awarded an Angel of Peace Award in 1997. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Benjamin Alport in 1990. She is survived by her three children, Stephen Alport of Florence, MA, Susan N. Alport of Brookline, MA, and Deborah Alport Wyler of Newton, and her four grandchildren, James and Daniel Alport and Samuel and Anna Wyler. The funeral will be Sunday 2:00 PM at Temple Beth El with burial in Beth El Cemetery. The Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home is in charge. Shiva will be Sunday and Monday with evening services at 7:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Community Room at Ruth's House, 780 Converse St. in Longmeadow.
