Social Reformer. She was an exemplary, outspoken woman of women's rights and among the most prominent women in the intellectual circle in Boston. Her book Woman in the Nineteenth Century was the first detailed statement of feminism in America, inspiring the first women's rights convention at Seneca Falls, NY in 1848. Died with her husband and two-year-old son in a shipwreck off Long Island, NY.
