ANDERSON HILL - Theron Kyle met with a sad accident Satuday afternoon while engaged at work in the woods at this place with Fred Gulden. A sliver flew in his eye and went out again but hurting his eye so badly that the sight was extinguished. He has the sympathy of his many friends here.

ANDERSON HILL - A.J. Kyle and family went to Owego Thursday, and at the home of Mr. Kyles parents near Candor Friday, arriving there about one hour before his father died.
Many of the friends and neighbors in this place attended the funeral of Theron D. Kyle, at his late home near Candor, Monday. He passed away very suddenly not being any worse than usual only for a day or so. He had not been well in a long time, but his sudden death cast a gloom over the entire community. He is survived by his wife to whom he was wedded fifty years ago. (November 23, 1859) and two sons, Albert Kyle of this place, and T. Fred Kyle of Catatonk, two daughters, Mrs. Fred Gulden of Catatonk and Mrs. Ernest Knight of Newark Valley and many grandchildren. He has always been a christian man, a great worker in the church and church affairs, was always ready to stand up for his master in any place and his departure effects us all. He and family were for many years residents of this place, only moving away this last time one year ago last April, when he moved to Catatonk, but had attended church here whenever able to ride so far. Verily "our church" has lost one of its oldest and most consistent members and a great ___ seems to have fallen from it.

DEATH OF THERON D. KYLE - Again the grim reaper death has entered our midst and taken an aged and respected citizen from us. Theron D. Kyle departed this life Friday, Dec 17, 1909, at 11 am at his home near Candor, which he had but recently purchased. He was the eldest child of Thomas and Margaret Yerks Kyle and was born in August 1837 in Orange county, NY. He with his parents removed to this place more than fifty years ago. Nov 23, 1859 he was joined in marriage to Mary Orcutt, daughter of Mr and Mrs. James Orcutt, of this place. They have lived in Iowa, Maryland, and various places in this country, but most of their life was spent in this place. His funeral was held Monday at 11 am at his house. Rev. E.D. Cavanaugh spoke words of comfort and cheer from Hebrews, 11, and a portion of verse 4. "And by it, he being dead yet speaketh." Very impressive singing was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Darius Howard and Wallace Masten. The bearers were neighbors from this place, viz, Lafayette Williams, Romeo Roberts, Frank Forbes, and Dana Burchard, who laid him tenderly at rest in the Woodbridge cemetery, by the side of his many loved ones gone before. He is survived by his wife and two sons, T. Fred Kyle of Catatonk, and J. Albert Kyle of this place; two daughters, Mrs. Lulu Gulden, of near Catatonk, and Mrs. Maggie Knight, of east Newark; three brothers, Daniel Y. Kyle, of Fairfield; S. Floyd Kyle, of Catatonk, and James Aaron Kyle, of Iowa; three sisters Mrs. Mary Barnes, of Catatonk; Mrs. Jennie Lane and Mrs Clarissa Wentworth, of Candor, several grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces, who will miss him more than can be told, as he always had a good word and pleasant smile for all. He was a consistent member of the M.E. church here, and will be much missed as his heart and purse were always open and free to help on all good works. He was converted when a young man, during revival meetings held in the old school house, before our church was built. While under conviction he experience himself in this ways, "That he would like religion, but did not want to be like a brush-heap, soop burned out and gone." He made the profession and has always continued firm in this faith. He has at different times held about all the offices in the church, steward, class-leader, Sunday school superintendent, trustee, etc., and was a power in whatever office he occupied. He lifted his pastor and helped then; in every way possible. The family wish to thank all who so kindly assisted in any way during the illness, death and burial of their loved one, and especially the singers who sang so sweetly the soul-soothing hymns.
