Viola Higgins Shortes, 96, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in a Sterling City nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. R. T. Havener, officiating.
She was born on July 15, 1913, in Mullin, Texas and married Albert Loyd Shortes on December 3, 1934 in Sterling City, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1970.
She grew up in Howard County and lived in the Brown Community. She and her husband farmed there until Loyd's illness at which time they moved to Big Spring.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Norma Wheeler of The Colony; ten nephews and four nieces. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister.
The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
