ANN SHIRLEY BURNETT (Age 81) of Arlington, VA, died peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Capital Hospice in Arlington.

She was born in Scranton, PA on September 21, 1929, to James and Kathleen Shorten.

Mrs. Burnett was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, VA.

Mrs. Burnett is survived by Walter Burnett, her beloved husband of 58 years, and by her daughters Patricia Burnett Potts of Chickamauga GA, Debbie Burnett House and her husband, Art House, of La Plata MD, Bonnie Burnett Yetter of Clear Spring MD, and son Brian Burnett of Lusby MD.

She is survived by her six grandchildren Zachary House, Beth Ann House, Jonathan House, and his wife Sunshine, Ryan Yetter, Eric Yetter, and Megan Burnett; and great-grandchildren Alya and Greyson House. Mrs. Burnett is also survived by her siblings: Mary Butterweck (Don) Fontana CA, Robert Shorten (Theresa) Alexandria VA, Louise Marinangeli Scranton PA, Trudy Barber (John) Macon GA, James Shorten (Marcia) Locust Grove VA, and her sister-in-law Carol Shorten of Hatboro PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Walter Shorten, Jerome Shorten, sister in law Loretta Jean Badey, and brother in law Joseph Burnett.

A viewing will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA on Monday, December 6, 2010, between the hours of 4 to 8 p.m.

A funeral mass will be at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. followed by the interment to be held at Quantico National Cemetery, in Triangle VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Capital Hospice, 4715 North 15th Street Arlington, VA 22205.
