Betty J. Stephenson, 77, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Monday, November 29, 2010.

Mrs. Stephenson was born in Danielsville, to the late J.P. Wilson and Rossie Horne Bone and was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy Wilson.

During her lifetime Mrs. Stephenson served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of many clubs and organizations which included the Athens Shrinettes, a 50-year member of Athens Chapter #268 Order of Eastern Star, she started Beaverdam Fire Dept. Lady's Auxillary, Board Member of the Rainbow Girls, Masonic Camping Club, the Athens Antique Car Club; the Silver Hair Club, and the XYZ Senior Group at Prince Ave. Baptist Church. Mrs. Stephenson was a member of Winterville Baptist Church and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Stephenson was an avid gardener, crafter, and seamstress.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harold D. Stephenson; daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Don Read of Peachtree City; grandchildren, who were her heart, Lt. Robert D. Read, III and Rebecca M. Read; her beloved sisters, Joyce Bradley, Jean Jones, Geraldine Tucker; her much loved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and her many wonderful nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews; her "bonus" children, Carol Dellinger, Susan Cronic, Phillip Gillespie, Linda Parker, Cathy Pearson, Greg Edwards, and Jamie Tucker.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 in the Chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Finger, Rev. Jeff Lester, and Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at Bernstein.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the ALS Association, 1955 Cliff Valley Way, Suite 116, Atlanta, GA 30329, St. Mary's Hospice, P.O.
