Traer Star Clipper, Friday December 8th, 1893 page 5

It was with much surprise and sorrow that our people learned or the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Charles Maxwell, south of Traer, Tuesday morning. Scarcely any of the neighbors knew she was sick. She suffered an attack of la grippe last week and Tuesday morning early became alarmingly ill, dying before a physician or the nearest neighbor arrived. It is probable heart trouble followed the other malady. Mrs. Maxwell was of the McDowall family, the youngest of the eleven children of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert McDowall, who came here in an early day and gave to our community a family of noble children. The deceased was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, May 11, 1848. In 1856 she came to this country and has lived in Tama county from that date. On December 22, 1870, she became the happy bride of Charles Maxwell, to whom she has bore seven children, all of whom are living. She was a woman of intelligence and strength of character, of fervent piety born of thorough conviction. She has been called away long before her allotted time, but she leaves an impress upon a large family which years will not efface. She was a devoted member of Tranquility and has been from the early history of the church. The funeral services took place at the United Presbyterian church in Traer, Wednesday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage of friends. Rev. Conybeare preached impressively, and Rev. Henderson assisted ln the services. Burial was in Buckingham cemetery.
