Billie Jeanette Hussong
(July 13, 1952 - December 03, 2010)

Billie Jeanette Hussong

July 13, 1952 was a joyous day, for Billie Jeanette Hussong was born. Bernice and Roy Hussong treasured that day; for they had already lost two sons at birth. So Jeannie was a special gift. Particularly to her 5 year old sister, Delores, who loved her, and will deeply miss her. For today, December 3, 2010, Jeannie went home to be with the lord. Mom and Dad and brothers already there to meet her, I only wish I could walk along with her on that last journey.

For the past year and 10 months, Billie Jean fought a battle with cancer, with courage, with faith, and with good attitude. It's not a battle lost; just one finished honorably.

She never stopped expressing gratefulness to friends and family for their love, prayers and support in this battle. She loves you, too.

She lived always close to hearts of her family in Galena, KS.

Jeannie graduated from Galena High School in 1970, and some may remember her working soda fountain for Swartz Drug during high school.

She graduated from Pittsburg College in 1974 majoring in psychology and art and was accredited in Art Therapy and worked in that field for six years.

The last 30 years, she has been employed by Eagle Picher Inc. in Joplin, MO. The people there have been so kind and supportive during her illness.

She loves most God, her family, her many friends.

Her most concern was to take good care of momma, and she did that. Mom passed January 2010; 21 years after Dad who passed October 1989.

I will miss you, little sister, everyday that I breathe. I am proud of you.

I am also eternally grateful to her friends for their help and to Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Tulsa for their care, and compassion.

Thanks to all who gave care; special thanks to Dr. Sharestha, Marie Housewright and the long list of wonderful doctors and nurses. You are a blessing.

Jeannie learned to accept the truth in the quote: God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change. . . Courage to change the things I can. . . and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday Dec 8, 201 at Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS.

Pastor Audie Tash will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, Dec 7, 2010 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.

Amen.
