{He invented & patented the escape hatch for submarines.

He turned the patent over to the U.S. government in 1928. He received a letter from the president, and a sword from the King of England. In 1928 the president of the United States was Calvin Coolidge. The King of England in 1928 was King George V.

Leah and Joseph had 2 children that died in infancy. The children were Joseph William Strunk Jr. 1920-1920 and Sarah Dillie Strunk May 11, 1924-May 11, 1924.
