"The following was taken from the Edna (Kansas) Sun. Many of the readers of The Press will remember the subject of this notice as the daughter of Mrs. Hiram Covill.

Nellie M. Rosecrans was born in Coles Co Illinois, December 19th of 1870. She was the eldest daughter of A. N. Rosecrans, a prominent statesman and prosperous businessman.

She completed her education in the Illinois State Normal and was an instructor by profession, teaching twelve terms of school. On October 24th, 1894 she was united in marriage to, Chas. S. Carlton, who with two little girls is left to mourn the depature of a loving wife and devoted mother.

One year after her marriage, she and her husband came to Kansas and during the school term of '95 attended the Labette County High School. The years that followed were spent happily on a farm until less than one year ago, when the family moved to Valeda, where on July 7th 1908 at 9 o'clock PM she passed peacefully away.

In the death of this esteemed lady, the community has met with a great loss. She possessed a most lovable disposition, and to her, life was a pleasure. Home to her was a haven of peace and contentment and the happy hours with her family were pleasantly wanted away. In her gentle way, wherever she went she made friends. While never been a member of any church, yet in your life's work and gentle, lovable manner, she was in every way a Christian.

The funeral services were held at the Valeda Church Sunday afternoon and the attendance was the evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Rev. Jas B Kelso of Edna, conducted the funeral services, after which, the remains were laid to rest, in the North Edna Cemetery."

Note: It is assumed that Nellie died in childbirth upon delivering her daughter Alice.
