* Virgil N. Knowles was born 23 May 1837 in Knox Co. Ohio and died 23 July 1901 64y. 2m. at his home in Cedar Twp. 64y.2m. and buried in Spencer Cem. He married 2 Feb. 1865 to Martha Coltrane. When about 23 years of age he moved with his other to Ill. residing there 2 years. From there to Henry Co. Iowa where for several years he was in charge of the Pinkerton grist mill. Later moved to Van Buren County, Iowa and operated for some time the Coltrane grist mill on Big Cedar Creek, in Cedar Twp. originally Sigler's mill. He married and had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls; the wife and one daughter preceded him. The rest of the family reside in Van Buren Co. Iowa.
