NEWTON — Glennard Ralph Bunton, 84, of Newton passed away at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at VA Illiana Health Care Center, Danville.

A private family service was held at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton, with Phillip Young and Bill Wilkinson officiating. Burial was in Chapel Cemetery, Falmouth, with full military rites by the Jasper Post 20 American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Veteran's Affairs Alzheimer's Care Facility, Danville, and can be sent to V.A. Illiana Health Care Systems Alzheimer's Care Facility, 1900 E. Main St., Danville, IL 61832.

Glennard was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Jasper County, to the late Ray and Gladys (Bower) Bunton. Glennard was the oldest of five boys: Bob (deceased), Kendall of Peoria, Lorraine (deceased), and Paul of Mount Zion. He married Genevieve French on June 30, 1949.

After beginning his career in the U.S. Navy, Glennard was also employed as an Illinois State Police officer, State Farm Insurance agent, Moorman's Feed salesman and an independent oil producer.

A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, he is survived by his devoted wife, Genevieve; four sons and their spouses, David (Glenda Bales) of Newton, Michael (Diane Bolander) of Newton, Jimmy of Hammond, Ind., and Randall (Barb Chapman) of Dundas; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Holly (Chad) Farley, Evan (Ashley) Bunton, Merissa (Matt) Brown, Elizabeth Bunton, Marsha (Dave) Schuster, Dale (Crystal) Bunton and Kris (Tara) Bunton; and 11 great-grandchildren, Cole, Ross and Luke Farley, David, Kelly and Payton Schuster, Owen and Kaylee Bunton and Tyler, Brooke and Austin Bunton.

In addition to his parents and brothers, Glennard was preceded in death by one grandchild, Garrett Bunton.
