Grace T. Alkire was the 7th of 10 children of Simon Crose Alkire and Elizabeth Ione Pace. Grace's death certificate mistakenly calls her father "Samuel," but of that matter her third husband Henry was not well informed.
The 1900 U.S. Census says Grace was born July 1881, and the record of her first marriage in 1899 says she was then 17. Therefore the dates of 1890 on her gravestone and 25 July 1889 on her death certificate are both mistaken. If she had been born in 1889, she would have only been 9 when she married Francis Theodore "Dode" Wykert in 1899. Most likely she was born 25 July 1881.
Grace had no children with her first husband Dode Wykert, whom she divorced on 6 Feb. 1908 in Denver, Colo. She married secondly to Harry Oscar Paddock on 26 Feb. 1908 in Kansas City, Mo., and with hims she had a son and a daughter. Harry divorced Grace in Feb. 1920, after which she married Henry Callison Akin. The obituary of her brother Simon Harley Alkire in March 1941 lists Grace among her surviving family as "Grace Akin of Glenstead (sic), Mo."
