Lucile Maude Emerson Mason died Saturday night, November 27, 2010 at Curtis Manor in Dalton, where she resided for the past six years.

Born in Dalton to Charles Emerson and Caroline Adams Emerson on January 6, 1916, she was a graduate of Dalton High School and a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church. Lucile married Gordon F. Mason on September 4, 1939.

Over the years, she worked for Crane & Co., the Town of Dalton, Dalton Pharmacy, and retired from Berkshire Medical Center in 1981.

An avid reader and occasional writer, she had several articles published in the Berkshire Eagle. She had a wide range of interests and took classes on many subjects. She also traveled widely and had a great love of jewelry and antiques. She volunteered in the public schools as a mentor and shared stories of her childhood with the young students. Her greatest joy came from her family and friends, who will dearly miss her hearty laugh, entertaining stories, and her loving and mischievous manner.

Her husband predeceased her in 1966. She leaves two beloved sons, Gordon F., Jr., and his wife, Barbara Joyce (Haskell), of Spring Hill, Florida and Peter D. and his wife, Vivian (Irland), of Hinsdale. She also leaves seven grandchildren and their spouses: Karen Grunow of Sudbury, J.G. Ivy of Hinsdale, Kelly Amrhein of Natick, Kristine Sullivan of Hinsdale, Valri Ivy of Great Barrington, Shauna Gaskin of Gosport, England, and Dexter Mason of Pittsfield. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. One of eleven children, Lucile is survived by one sister, Esther Boraski of Hinsdale.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Daina Salinitis officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ashuelot Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday before the services from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME.
