George was born in Baden, Germany as Johann Georg Loerch, son of Georg Friederich Loerch and Eva Maria Barbara Haefelen. He married Anna Maria Agnesia Rupp on 17 Jul 1810 in Altlussheim, Mannheim, Baden, Germany. They had four children, all born in Eppingen, Heidelberg, Baden-Wurrtemberg, Germany:
1. Johann Konrad Loerch, born 27 Jul 1811
2. Johann Georg Loerch (George Larick), born 21 Mar 1813
3. Johann Friedrich Loerch, born 22 Oct 1815
4. Andreas Loerch, born 13 Feb 1822

In 1839, Johann Georg, his wife, his oldest son Johann Konrad Loerch and his son's wife all came to America, settling first in Ohio, where his second son Johann Georg had settled after arriving in 1838. Around the mid-1850s, Johann Georg Sr. and Johann Konrad moved their families to Inland Township, Iowa. They later Anglicized their last name to Larick, each dropping the Johann first name and becoming George and Conrad Larick.
