Edwin S. Yoakum
Edwin S. "Dee" Yoakum, 84, a resident of Four Lost Ave., Buckhannon, died at 4:58 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born May 2, 1920, at Ellamore, a son of the late George Wesley Yoakum and Mary Maude Booth Yoakum.
On July 24, 1948, he was married to Lavaughn Sipe Yoakum, who survives.
Also surviving are one grandson, Keenan Barnes of Richmond, Va.; one great-grandson, Cadell Barnes of Richmond, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Cassidy Marie Barnes and Courtney Lavaughn Barnes, both of Richmond, Va.; one son-in-law, John W. Barnes of Buckhannon; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were one daughter, Sharon Marie Barnes; three brothers, James Yoakum, Scott Yoakum and Granville Yoakum; and two sisters, Hattie Mae Harris and Nora Juanita Fallen. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a truck driver for Gaston Grocery and attended Mt. Harman United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and French Creek Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans, served as Sunday school superintendent at Mt. Harman United Methodist Church and was a trustee for may years.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling and the Rev. Michelle Goss officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery. Buckhannon VFW Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the gravesite. From 7 Apr 2005.
