About 1810, William's father moved the family from Montgomery Co VA to Pulaski Co KY. In 1815, they moved again to Lawrence Co IN. After two years in Lawrence Co IN, they moved once more to Jackson Co IN.
On 31 Dec 1817 in Jackson Co IN, William married Jemima Newkirk, daughter of Benjamin Newkirk and Elcy Sparkes (aka Alsey Sparks) Newkirk. The couple settled in Carr Twp, near Medora.
