Gloria Joan Bomer
TRINITY – Gloria Joan Bomer, 81, of Trinity died Thursday, April 1, 2010. She was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Taylor and among her fondest memories were her years attending Catholic boarding schools in Waco and New Orleans, La. She had a tremendous respect for the nuns and priests at the schools and felt they taught her to be a better person and developed her love for God and her neighbors. She was especially found of her time in New Orleans, 1941-1945, where she fell in love with the sights, smells, tastes and cultures there. She often fantasized about moving there but the opportunity never presented itself. Mrs. Bomer became a widow after 36 years of marriage and started life anew as a telephone operator. She went on to become owner and operator of one of the foremost Houston-based doctors' answering services. Following her retirement, she moved to Trinity to be close to her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Russell Bomer; and her dogs, Pesky, Rosie, Toad and Sprite. Survivors include four children, Joan Elizabeth Brier, Gorden Kent Bomer, Luther Keith Bomer and Karen Tracy Bomer; nine grandchildren, James Parker, Kenny Bomer, Jeremy Bomer, Penny Ivy, Julie Parker, Brian Keith Bomer, James Smith, Anthony Smith and Taylor Roby; 10 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Boo Boo.
