Harvey O. Gilbertson, 77 of Barnesville, Minnesota died Monday in Sanford Hospital, Fargo.

Harvey, son of Carl J. and Jennie H. (Herseth) Gilbertson, was born July 25, 1933 on his family's farm near Milton, North Dakota where he attended school. He moved with his family to a farm near Barnesville in 1944. After his schooling he worked on the family farm and also worked for area farmers in the production of potatoes and June grass.

Harvey married Joyce Severson on February 23, 1952 in the Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville. The couple made their home and farmed east of Barnesville. Harvey worked for American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead from 1952 to 1967 when he purchased the Amoco Station in Barnesville. He owned and operated Harvey's Service Station until 1972. In 1971 Harvey began his career with the City of Barnesville eventually serving as electrical superintendent. He retired from the City in 1996 completing 25 years of service.

Harvey and Joyce continued to operate the farm with cattle all those years retiring from farming in 1984. Harvey then farmed with his son Ed up to a few days before he died.

Harvey was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Barnesville and served on the church board for many years. His family was very important to him, the holiday tables full with four generations; kids, grandkids and great-grandkids always put a smile on his face. His three great joys in life were farming, fixing and family.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Joyce of rural Barnesville; five sons, Bruce Gilbertson of Pierre, South Dakota, John (Debbie) Gilbertson of St. Michael, Minnesota, Ed (Patty) Gilbertson of Barnesville, Howard Gilbertson of Fargo and Dennis (Beth) Gilbertson also of Fargo; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, Carl Gilbertson of Barnesville; Toni (Justin) Chase of Fargo and their daughter, Ryleigh; Ben (Dayna) Gilbertson of Albertville and their son, Hunter; Jake Gilbertson of Monticello; Cory (Sarah) Gilbertson of Moorhead and their daughter, Grace; Becky (Mark) Torkelson of West Fargo; Justin (Cami) Gilbertson of Barnesville; Vanessa and her son Brodie Gilbertson of Moorhead; Ashley Gilbertson of Moorhead; Melissa (Nathan) Johnson of Fargo and their children Caedon and Mackenna; Amber (Chad) Kylstad of Fargo and their son Mason; Joshua Gilbertson of Fargo.
