Corp. William A. Baber
Served with Co. I 2nd Virginia Inf. CSA During the war for Southern independance of 1861-65 (AKA The Civil war)
Little is known what William did after the war until he was admitted to the Confederate Veterans Home in June of 1917 when he was no longer able to support himself because of a weak heart and rheumatism, He was collecting at that time a pension of $22 a month from the state of Virginia for his war service to that state. He died of a heart attack Nov. 1 1921 at the age of 81. The Attached photo of William is courtesy of the Todd collection of Wall SD who was kind enough to send me a scan of it for find a grave. The Photo was taken by The Lee Photographic Gallery 920 Main St. Richmond VA CSA. The photos of his grave and the cemetery were taken in Sept. 2001.
