Thomas Martin was the son of James Martin (1710-1767) and Ann Miller Martin ((1728-1799).

He was the grandson of Jonathan Martin (1688-1768) and Elizabeth Dunham Martin (1689-1713) and of Thomas Miller (1687-1755) and Betsy Isabel Thompson Miller (b. 1687).

Thomas Martin was also the father of George R. Martin (b.1818).

The Report of the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission, Special Report: Preservation of Revolutionary War Veteran Gravesites in Virginia, House Document #42, 2001, lists soldier Thomas Martin, 1759 - 1856, buried at New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Brownsburg, Rockbridge Co., VA.
