Marianne Bates, Hartford, Ohio, passed away Saturday (9-5-09) in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown. She was 74.
Mrs. Bates was born May 29, 1935, in Hartford, the daughter of George and Helen "Peg" Pfouts Blaney.
She was a 1952 graduate of Hartford High School.
Marianne was a homemaker. She retired as a part-time cook at the former Hartford Elementary School. She also worked part-time at Sharon Speedway.
Marianne was a member of the Hartford United Methodist Church and several card clubs. She enjoyed following auto racing and following her grandchildren's sporting events.
She is survived by: her husband, Robert T. Bates, whom she married Aug. 26, 1953; a daughter, LuAnne Bates, Hartford; two sons, Rick Bates, Hartford, and Tom Bates, Allen, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Lew, Robert and Gary Blaney.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Badger Athletic Boosters, 5913 State Route 7, Kinsman, Ohio 44428, or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
