MAY HILL OVERTON ANDERSON, 81, formerly of Memphis, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2005 at the home of her daughter Dr. Karen Anderson of Houston, TX. A daughter of the late mayor of Memphis, Watkins Overton, and a great-great-great-granddaughter of John Overton, one of the city founders, Mrs. Anderson was born in Memphis and raised her family here. A graduate of the Hutchison School and Northwestern University, she was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Memphis for many years until transferring her membership to Bellaire Presbyterian Church of Houston. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Paul Clair Anderson, now of Houston, and her five daughters; Mayhill Fowler, of Oakland, CA, Paula Nickels, of Kingsport, TN, Karen Anderson of Houston, TX, Julia Cook of Houston, TX, and Nancy Anderson, of Seattle, WA. Mrs. Anderson also leaves seven grandchildren; Mayhill Courtney Fowler, in Princeton, NJ, Caroline Overton Fowler, in Berlin, Germany, John Mark Nickels, in Chicago, IL, Nadia Matile Watkins Anderson, in Seattle, WA and in Houston, TX, Claire Lyn Cook, Karen Elizabeth Cook, and Mary Kristine Anderson. She also leaves a half-brother and half-sister, Napoleon Hill Overton, of Memphis, and Helen Overton Brown, of Oak Hill, VA. A visitation will be held from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2005 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 18 at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home Poplar.
