Longmeadow-Mary G. Garvey, age 89, passed away on July 18, 2008 at Glenmeadow Retirement Community in Longmeadow. She was born on July 17, 1919 in Springfield to the late Michael J. and Elizabeth "Bessie" (McCarthy) Gibbons. She worked in Public Relations for Dean John Mitchell at AIC for many years before retiring. She was an officer of the Women's Division of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce. She was pre-deceased by her husband Edmund P. garvey who passed away in 1991. She leaves her sister, Margaret Walsh of Chicopee, and brother Thomas M. Gibbons of Naples, Fl; two other brothers, James M. Gibbons and David W. Gibbons also pre-deceased her. Mary leaves her many other loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday July 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Church, 577 Carew St. Springfield, MA., followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Edmund P. Garvey Scholarship Fund at STCC, Armory Sq., Suite 1, P.O. Box 9000, Springfield, MA. 01102-9000 or to the Glenmeadow Retirement Community, 24 Tabor Crossing, Longmeadow, MA. 01106 or to the Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care, 770 Converse St., Longmeadow, MA. 01106. The Grise Funeral Home is in charge of Services.
