In 1900 she and her parents and three siblings lived in a house they owned, with a mortgage, on Karl Street in Pittsburgh, PA. Her father worked as an Expressman.

In 1920 her parents and five of their children, including her, her husband Walt, and their daughter Alta, lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, on Neshannock Avenue near North Mercer Street in New Wilmington, PA. Her father worked as a laborer and assistant janitor. Her sister Mary worked as a servant in a dining room, likely at Westminster College. Her husband Walt worked as a laborer in the tin mill.

In 1930 she and her husband and their daughter lived in a house at 209 North Market Street in New Wilmington which they were renting for $100 a month. They did have a radio. Walt worked as the proprietor of a restaurant.

In 1940 she and her husband lived in an apartment they were renting for $45 a month at 323 Orchard Street in New Wilmington. He worked as an assistant janitor at a public school, with an income in 1939 of $810 for 36 weeks of work. She worked as the head cook at a girl's dormitory, with an income in 1939 of $580 for 36 weeks of work.

In 1950 she and her husband and a roomer, 47-year-old Ella McCrae Stagg, lived in a house at 224 North Mercer Street in New Wilmington. Walter worked as the custodian at the New Wilmington United Presbyterian Church, and Ella as the chairman of modern languages at Westminster College.

NEW WILMINGTON – Mrs. Mabel M. Hawk, 88, of 224 N. Mercer St. died in Jameson Memorial Hospital at 11 a.m. yesterday after an illness of two weeks.

She was born in Wilkinsburg, Pa., on Sept. 4, 1885 to the late Curtis and Lila Clark Minteer.

Mrs. Hawk was a member of New Wilmington United Presbyterian Church; the Latria Bible Class of the church; a life member of Chapter 105, Order of the Eastern Star; the Wimodausis Club of New Castle; and a past president of the Auxiliary of the Lawrence Commandry of the Masonic Order.

She is survived by her husband, Walter R. Hawk, whom she married March 15, 1910; a daughter, Mrs. William (Mae) Aggas of New Castle; three brothers, John Minteer of El Cajon, Calif., Victor Minteer and Arthur Minteer, both of New Wilmington; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shultz of Citronella, Ala., Mrs. Gertrude DeWick of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the E. Galley Sharp Funeral Home, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Wilburn of the church and Dr. Joseph Hopkins of Westminster College. Burial will be in Neshannock Cemetery.
