Holger Olson, 1841-1922, and Ellen G. Olson, 1841-1925, were born at Halsnøy Island, near Stavanger, Norway. Holger and Ellen were married in Norway 6 July, 1866. They immigrated to America in 1868, originally to Ossian, Iowa, a predominantly Norwegian immigrant community just south of Decorah. They next moved to homestead in Highland Twsp., Lincoln Co. Dakota Terr., then moved on to Charles Mix county near Platte. About 1904 they moved again to the Balaton Minn. area. In 1906 moved back to Turner county So. Dak. They were the parents of seven children . The oldest child was Ole, born in 1867 in Norway. Then Sophia (Olson) Scotvold, b. 1869 at Ossian, Ia. followed by Arden, Elmer, Herman, Lena and Carl. The youngest, Carl died as a child of pneumonia. In 1917 Holger and Ellen moved to Bethesda Home at Beresford for their remaining years.
