Joyce Ann Huneycutt was born 25 Feb 1953 to Millard Junior Huneycutt and Martha Ann Tyson. Her sisters are Patty Jean Huneycutt Honeycutt Wise and Donna Gale Huneycutt Torrence Bass. She is the granddaughter of Millard Pines Huneycutt and Janie Luther Huneycutt.

Joyce Ann loved to sing and her favorite song was "Jesus loves Me." In her memory, the congregation sang "Jesus lives Me" at her funeral. Very sweet memory.

Joyce Ann loved everybody - including local TV personalities. She especially loved cowboy Fred Kirby and weather man Larry Sprinkle. Mr. Sprinkle is active in many charitable activities in Charlotte and met Joyce Ann through Special Olympics. She always pointed him out as "my friend" when she saw him on TV. Our family was especially pleased when he attended her funeral and told us that he had known her for a long time and he was indeed "her friend." Another sweet memory of a very sweet "girl."

The spotlight always found Joyce Ann. She was on a large billboard and featured in a newspaper ad public service message from US ALL. The ad featured her work in a garden center that read:
Headline: "You think I can't, I Know I can!" See photo.
"A Lot of people think that mentally retarded people just can't. Can't take care of themselves, can't get dressed, feed or think for themselves. Most people think that mentally retarded people can't live independently from their families or institutions. But people at Nevins think differently. They know that mentally retarded adults can be active members of our community and achieve a viable level of independence. And they know from experiance that these goals are attainable.
Since 1959, Nevins Center has been shaping the future of their mentally retarded clients through education, job training, and employment in the sheltered workshop on their Derita campus. Through local and national industries, the clients are trained and employed in product or service-related jobs commensurate with their abilities, and each client is paid according to their level of productivity. With the skills learned at Nevins, many clients will become competitively employed in our community.
Employment is the first step toward independence, and independence is the key to being a part of the community. Join in building a stronger community for all of us, call Nevins at..."
