Leonard Eriksson, 90, 807 Glen Way, a Fergus Falls attorney since 1905, died at Lake Region Hospital Sunday at 6:20 p.m. He was 90 years old.
A former mayor of Fergus Falls, a former member of the Legislature and formerly county attorney, he was prominent in community affairs for many years.
Mr. Eriksson was born In Sweden Nov. 11, 1876. He was a youth when he came to the United States to live with an uncle on a farm near Warren and he became a naturalized citizen in 1898.
He was a graduate of Moorhead State Teachers College and Georgetown University Law School. When he was admitted to the bar in 1905 he began the practice of law in Fergus Falls and continued until a few years ago when he retired because of his health.
He was mayor of Fergus Falls for several terms—from April, 1916, to March 1918, which included the World War I period, and from April, 1931, to March, 1932. During that period he promoted the city's Golden Jubilee.
He was county attorney in the late 1920's and served as a representative in the Legislature from 1933 to 1937.
Mr. Eriksson was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church. He belonged to the Elks lodge and the Minnesota
State Bar Association.
On Dec. 31, 1907, he was married to Kate Shonts and they were the parents of two children. Her death occurred March 26, 1915. Mr. Eriksson was married to Annie Sime Kraemer Dec. 18,1948.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Sydney MacDonald of St. Paul, a son, James of Minneapolis, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two brothers.
The funeral will be held at the Augustana Lutheran Church on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Laurel M. Udden officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Glende-Johnson Funeral Home only.
