Jay-Lee E. Cronkhite, 59, of 35 Jewell St., died Tuesday morning Dec. 31, at his home after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

He was born in Livermore, Aug. 4, 1937, the son of Geoffrey and Florence (Hammond) Cronkhite. He received his education in Livermore Falls High School. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. On Oct.10, 1958, he married the former Florence LaPointe.

He was employed at International Paper Co., both the Otis Division and the Androscoggin Mill for 36 years. He was a leadman electrician in the pulp mill. He was a member of the Firemen and Oiler Local 246 and Local 14 Union.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and a life-member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 and was a member of the Lane-Dube Amvets Post 33.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed canoeing, fishing, wildlife and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Florence, of Jay; one son, Neil and his wife Libby of Winthrop; two daughters, Tracy and her husband Gene Durrell of Farmington and Lori and her husband Daniel DeSousa of Dover, N.H.; two granddaughters, Mandi and Karina Durrell of Farmington; a brother, LeRoy of East Livermore; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Irin.
