Aged Mother Passes Away

On Wednesday afternoon, January 18, 1922, at 1:30 o'clock, Mrs. Henry Borcherding, Sr., (nee Louise Kregel) passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louise Walter, in Jefferson Township, after a short illness, and at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 14 days. Deceased was born at Rosvoltingen, Hannover, Germany, on November 4, 1848, coming to America with her parents in the year 1865 and settling at Guttenberg, Iowa.

She was married at Guttenberg to Mr. Henry Borcherding, who preceded her in death 21 years ago. Two children also preceded her in death. The greater part of her life was spent on a farm in Jefferson Township. Mrs. Borcherding had been in good health until a few days ago, and her death was a shock for all in this community. She was a kind and loving mother, sister and friend, and her greatest pleasure in life was to do acts of kindness for her family and friends, by whom she will be sadly missed and will not be forgotten. In her death this community loses another one of its most highly respected and worthy pioneer residents and mothers. She was also faithful member of St. John's Lutheran church of Guttenberg, where funeral services will probably be held on Saturday afternoon, and interment will probably be made in the Borcherding Cemetery in Jefferson Township. Rev. J. Janzig, of St John's Lutheran Church, will conduct the funeral services. All was done that could be done to save her life, but all failed when the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond. Her death is deeply mourned by two sons, Henry and Fred Borcherding, of Jefferson Township; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Walter, of Jefferson Township; Mrs. J. A. Dettman and Mrs. George Kishman; of near Farmersburg; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Borcherding, of Jefferson Township; Mrs. Christine Walter and Miss Minnie Kregel of Loveland, Colorado, and many other relatives and friends.

Note: She was born at Gross Varlingen, Hannover, Germany
