The daughter of William Elias "Eli" Edwards and Mary Jane Phillips Edwards, Margurett (pronounced "Marguerite") Jane "Maggie" Edwards King was a homemaker and farm laborer born in September 1851 in Robeson County, North Carolina. She had five siblings. Margurett married William Edward ("Eddie") King on October 20, 1870 in Robeson County, and they had eleven children, at least eight of whom survived infancy, including: daughters: Dannie King (married name unknown), Mattie Clyde Edna King Bailey, Annie Laurie King Tolar, Mary Bertie King Lee, and Nettie Donnie King Neely Riley and sons: Lawrence Adams King, Lonzo ("Lonnie O.") King, and Earnest B. King (aka Earnest Robert Cain). Her heritage was English. After the births of their older children, Maggie and Eddie and their children moved from Robeson County, North Carolina to what became Dillon County, South Carolina. She is probably buried somewhere in either Robeson County, North Carolina or Dillon County, South Carolina where the family moved. I would appreciate any help in zeroing in on which cemetery in that area holds her remains. I fear she lies forgotten in an unmarked grave.

DNA testing reveals Maggie and her direct female descendants and ancestors and their brothers are of the clan of "Helena" (mtDNA haplogroup H) who lived 20,000 years ago in the Dordogne region of southwest France near the present city of Perpignan on the Mediterranean, gathering oysters and hunting and creating cave paintings.

There is no known photo of Margurett J. Edwards King. I hope one of her descendants will add her photo to this site and solve the mystery of exactly how, where, and when she died and where she is buried.
