Sam was in the Navy from 1908-1912 as a Seaman. During the 1910 Census he is listed in the Military and Naval of California. Samuel F Childers, single, 22, is at sea aboard the USS South Dakota.

Information from his World War I Draft Card on June 5, 1917 lists his home as Everton, MO. Sam works as a Bridge Carpenter for the Frisco Railroad at Everton. He is age 30, single, short, stout, has blue eyes and dark hair and has one eye out.

Sam's WW II Draft Card of April 27, 1942 lists him living and working at Bennett Spring State Park, Lebanon, Laclede County, MO. He is single, 5'5", 145 pounds, with blue eyes and gray hair. He has a scar over his left eye.

At the time of his death Sam was a Fish Culturist at Chesapeake Fish Hatchery, Lawrence County, MO. He was married to Dulcia sometime after 1940, they did not have children together.
