Longtime Staten Islander Mary Clifford, 81, of Midland Beach, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Wednesday at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

Born Mary Heaney in Providence, Rhode Island, she was brought to Staten Island as child and grew up in Ocean Breeze. She also lived in South Beach before settling in Midland Beach twenty-two years ago.

A graduate of McKee High School, Mrs. Clifford was a medical records supervisor in the radiology department of the former St. Vincent's Hospital, West Brighton, for three decades. She retired in 1999.

She cherished time spent with her family, and enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. She also liked to play bingo.

Her husband of fifty years, Robert, died in 1998. She also was preceded in death by her son, John, in 1950, her son, Robert, in 1960, and her daughter, Frances DeRosa, in 1999.

Surviving are her son, Thomas; her daughters, Diane Prisinzano and Debra Prontnicki; three brothers, James, Thomas, and Robert; two sisters, Dorothy Klovan and Helen Shanahan; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills.
Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
