Norman Burton, 92, of Amarillo, formerly of Canadian, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Canadian with the Rev. Tom Stribling officiating and Larry Mote assisting. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian.

Norman was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Bard, N.M., to the late E.B. Burton and Dollie Starkey Burton. He attended schools in San Jon, N.M.

He married Lorene Massey on May 16, 1940, in San Jon. They moved to Claude before they settled in Hemphill County near Canadian.

Norman did custom baling and raised registered Yorkshire hogs and livestock. He served as Hemphill County commissioner and was a member of various organizations. He was an avid supporter of livestock shows.

The family would like to thank the staff of Canyon View Estates and Interim Hospice.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cloyd Burton.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lorene Burton; four sons, Dorland Burton and wife Ann and Shelby Burton and wife Sue, all of Stratford, Oran Burton and wife Ann of Stinnett, and Duval Burton and wife Shirley of Spearman; two sisters, Mildred Mote and husband Hobart of Broadview, N.M., and Elsie Wiseman of Vega; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to a favorite charity.
