Carrie Wilbur Ray Hicks was my paternal grandmother. Her parents were Thomas W Ray (1873 - 1966)and Rhoda Moore Ray (1871 - 1954). MaMa Hicks outlived her husband and all her children with the exception of one daughter. MaMa Hicks, was a feisty little lady who spoke her mind....you may not like what she was saying, but say it should would. MaMa died in Feb 2003 at the age of 96. She still lived in her own home, though family checked on her daily and made sure she was driven to doctor appointments, shopping, etc. She and my grandfather, Alonzo Dewitt Hicks, lived to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 1973. After my grandfather died in 1975, MaMa moved from her home in Piedmont, Alabama to a home in Oxford, Alabama to be nearer to her children. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith, but was not an active member. In her early marriage, she and my grandfather moved back and forth from Kemper, Mississippi to Jacksonville and/or Piedmont Alabama, before eventually settling in Piedmont, where they lived until my grandfather's death. My grandparents were very poor and struggled to raise their family. Their children were:Floyd Hicks(died in infancy) , Malcoln Hicks, Durwood Hicks, Billy Hicks (died in infancy), Franklin Hicks (died in infancy), Nellie Grace Hicks, and Bennie Paul Hicks.
