Chester J. Skelly, 78, of 309 Chicago St., died Monday, Jan. 2, at Mercy Hospital.
Mr. Skelly was born Oct. 21, 1910 in Janesville, the son of Peter and Cora Holmes Skelly. He married Charlotte Davidson on May 4, 1946 in Milton Junction. He had lived in Milton for the past 50 years coming here from Janesville. He was the Milton Postmaster for 36 years, retiring in 1974. He was a director of Milton Savings and Loan, a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Shamrock Club, Milton Historical Society, was co-owner of Sunnyview Orchard and was active in the Boy Scouts, obtaining the Silver Beaver Award and serving on the Advisory Board of the Sinnissippi Council and a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church.
Mr. Skelly is survived by his wife; two sons, Dennis (Theresa) of Brookfield and Larry of Milton; two daughters, Linda (Thomas) Hilts of Wales and Nancy (David) Hoffman of Stoughton; six grandchildren, Troy and Andrew Hilts, Brian and Trevor Hoffman, and Daniel and Brenna Skelly; four brothers, Victor of Janesville, Donald of Alabama, Robert of Janesville and James of Ocala, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father James McEnery officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery.
