Daniel Anthony Urbain was born on September 11, 1907 near Fillmore, Iowa. He was the son of Joseph Urbain and Catherine McDermott. Dan remained a bachelor his whole life.

Dan had many hobbies, including fishing and hunting, baseball and bowling, and playing cards. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and played baseball, incuding being on the 1940 Dubuque County All-Star team that won the State Championship in Ames. After he quit playing baseball, he was the manager of the Placid baseball team. He continued to watch baseball on TV or listen on the radio for the rest of his life.

After the death of their father, Dan lived with his sister, Nora, who had been widowed for many years. Eventually he sold the home farm and he and Nora moved into a house next to their brother, Joseph's farm.

Dan died on November 25, 1997 at Maquoketa.
