Alta Adeline Rigby Ashby passed away peacefully at her home Dec. 31, 1995 after a short bout with cancer.
Born Nov. 12, 1919 in Bern, Idaho to John Thomas Rigby and Eliza Rebecca Kunz, she was the youngest of 12 children. Alta attended Utah State University where she met Carl Stephenson Ashby. They were married on June 12, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. They settled in Delta, Utah where they raised eight daughters and one son. She was involved in community activities where she served on the Millard County School Board for four years. She served in numerous church callings, was an avid genealogist, and served as a temple worker in the Provo Temple. Recently she served as a regional president of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.Survivors include two sisters, Pearl Michaelson, Logan; and Fonda Wilhelmson, Salt Lake City; eight daughters: Geri Aldrich (David), Plymouth, Michigan; Susan Gardner (Gary), Spanish Fork; Jean Edwards (Wayne), Lehi; Nancy Ercanbrack (Terry), Bountiful; Beth Whitaker (Barry), Spanish Fork; Debra Jensen (Dave), Mesa, Arizona; Cathy Cook (Jay), Delta; Dorene Johnson (Lyndon), Lehi; one son, Tom Ashby (Lisa Ely), Portland, Oregon; 43 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren
Friends may call at the Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Thursday evening, Jan. 4, 1996 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Sutherland Second Ward LDS Chapel (Delta, Utah) on Friday, Jan. 5, 1996 at 11 a.m.,where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Sutherland Cemetery
