PROMINENT CITIZEN MAY NOT LIVE OUT DAY
Former Carthage Quarry Operator Ill Since March - Suffering From Heart Condition
John O'Keefe, prominent Carthage resident and former quarry operator here, is reported in a grave condition and may not live out the day.
Mr. O'Keefe has been ill since March suffering from a heart condition, complicated by other ailments. For several weeks Mr. O'Keefe has been a patient in McCune-Brooks Hospital, having been moved there from his home on South Garrison.
In 1947 Mr. O'Keefe suffered a heart attack and was seriously ill for some time. Since then he had been in apparent good health, but had retired from all outside activities.

THE FUNERAL OF JOHN E. O'KEEFE THIS AFTERNOON
Rites for John E. O'Keefe, prominent Carthage resident, who passed away Friday night following an extended illness, were conducted at 10 o'clock this morning in Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. Eugene G. Malcolm, rector, conducted the service.
Mrs. Lloyd Clinton, organist, played several selections before and following the service.
Honorary pallbearers were;

Jed Brown and
Mrs. B. A. Vaughn, members of McCune-Brooks Hospital board of which
Mr. O'Keefe long had been president, George Masters, administrators at McCune-Brooks, Luther Turner, maintenance supervisor, O. E. Vawter, Allen McReynolds, Dr. Russell Smith, W. W. Wright, S. R. Morrow, Mayor T. E. Taylor, J. Homer Mote, W. E. Carter, Walter McElroy, John McMillan, J. S. Marx, Roy Mayes, H. O. Rogers and H. M. Cornell.
Active pallbearers were;
Lang Rogers, W. C. Putnam, J. K. Wright, H. H. McCune, E. M. Poirot and George Beimdiek, Jr.
Friends from over the district came to join in the final tribute to the Carthage civic and business leader. The church proper was filled and the services were carried to others in the parish house by loud speaker.
Evening of Thursday, June 7 1934 at Carthage, Missouri's Drake hotel, John & wife Cora were on the fifty one member reception committee to welcome their friends of over forty years, Colonel Carl Raymond and wife Harriette (Flora) Gray to Carthage Homecoming.
