His parents were Wilhelm Christian Heinrich "Christian" KOETHE of Grossfurra, Thuringia, Prussia, and his wife Rosine Christiana "Christine" MUTH, born in Oldisleben village, Saxonia (nka Thuringia), Prussia. The entire family immigrated to western Pennsylvania and most are buried there.

JOHN HERMANN KOETHE and EMMA ROSSFELD were my great-grandparents. They married 11 Oct 1886 in Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania. John Hermann Koethe is my great Grandfather.

J. H. KOETHE PASSES AWAY

Mr. J. H. Koethe, 73, a resident of Handley for the past ten years died suddenly Tuesday night about 9 o'clock, at his home here. He suffered a stroke of appoplexy.

Mr. Koethe was a retired merchant, coming to Handley ten years ago from Pittsburgh, PA.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jack Fowler. Rev. C.E. Howard, pastor of Handley Baptist Church and Rev. Ramsey Pollard, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church officiating. Internment was in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. E. H. Fowler, Handley, TX, and Miss Lenore Koethe and Mrs. Carrie Smith, Pittsburgh; three sons, John Koethe, Dallas, TX, and Richard Koethe and Frank Koethe, Pittsburgh; and a sister, Miss Emilie Koethe, Pittsburgh, PA.

Pallbearers were: Messrs. S. C. Smart, O. S. Haw, J. A. Moore, C.W. Walston, L.C. Mann, and V.T. Johnson.

Last Will and Testament of JOHN HERMANN "Herman" KOETHE, 25 Mar 1931

I, J. H. KOETHE, of the County of Tarrant, State of Texas, being in good bodily health and of sound and disposing mind and memory, and fully realizing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs while I possess the capacity and strength to do so, hereby make and publish and declare this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other wills heretofore made by me, that is to say:

First: I direct that the expenses of my last sickness, including the expenses of my funeral, be first paid, and all my just debts next paid in full.

Second: To my grandson, BOBBIE KOETHE, I give and bequeath the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars in money.

Third: All the remainder of my estate, real, personal or mixed of whatsoever kind, or wheresoever situated, I give and bequeath to my six children; EMILIE KOETHE FOWLER, JOHN KOETHE, FRANK KOETHE, CARRIE KOETHE SMITH, LENORA KOETHE, and RICHARD D. KOETHE, share and share alike.

Fourth: I hereby nominate and appoint my good friend, BEN T. MERRITT, my sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, and direct that no bond be required of him, and that no action be had in the Probate Court under this will other than the filling of an inventory and appraisement,
and list of claims as required by law.

In testimony of all of which, I hereunto set my hand, at Handley, Texas, in the presence of R. B. SMITH and RAY E. McCLESKEY, witnesses this 25th day of March, A.D. 1931.

Between HERMAN KOETHE and EMMA KOETHE, his wife, of the Township of West Deer, County of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania and H. F. KOETHE.
Witnesseth that in consideration of One and no/100 dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Grantors do hereby grant and convey to the said Grantee.
All that certain piece or parcel of land situated in the Township of West Deer, County of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, bounded and described as follows:
Beginning at a point in the center of raod known as the Middle Road at the intersection of lands of CHARLES BACKHOUSE, JOHN HEBERLEIN and said HERMAN KOETHE; thence along center of said Middle Road in a northeasterly
direction six hundred ten (610) feet more or less to line of Pittsburgh Tuberculosis League property; thence in a westerly directin along line of Pittsburgh Tuberculosis League property five hundred ninety (590) feet more or less to a point; thence in a southerly direction along line of CHARLES BACKHOUSE property a distance of one hundred (100) feet more or less to a place of beginning.
Excepting and reserving however, all the coal underlying the above described premises together with the right to mine and remove the same.
Being a part of the property which CHARLES F. KOETHE, LOUISE KOETHE, CHRISTIANA KOETHE, EMILIE KOETHE, FRANK H. KOETHE, LAURA KOETHE, LOUIS H. KOETHE and MARY KOETHE, by deed dated October 22, 1895, and recorded in the Recorder's Office of Allegheny County in Deed Book Volume 1894, Page 75, granted and conveyed to HERMAN KOETHE, one of the parties of the first part hereto.
Grantors covenant that they will warrant generally the property hereby conveyed.
In witness whereof said Grantors have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

My note: There seemed to be some confusion as to Mr. H. J/F/D Koethe middle initial. Sometimes he is "H. J." and sometimes he is "H. J." and other times I've seen "H. D.". I have no idea which is correct at this time. I typed the document exactly as it was given to me.

The BOBBIE KOETHE mentioned in his grandfather's Will was a "minor" at the time of JOHN HERMANN KOETHE's death August 1932. BOBBIE KOETHE was Robert Louis KOETHE (01 Jun 1927 - 29 Jul 2005 Newberry Co, SC), son of Fred KOETHE and wife Mabel DAUGHERTY.

HERMAN KOETHE, year 1890, occupation "laborer", address is listed as 99 Dawson Alley, A in: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania City Directories, 1888-1892. Neither HERMAN nor HERMANN KOETHE is found in the 1890 Pennsylvania Census at this time.

"HERMANN KOETHE" immigrated from the port of Bremen, Germany to New York (July 24, 1871) on the Ship Deutschland (port of New York) with his father, mother and siblings.
