Long-time Oak Ridge resident, Mrs. Patricia Mounts Benjamin, wife of Dr. Ben M. Benjamin, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, November 4, 2010 at the age of 83. Born May 6, 1927 in Gainesville, Florida, Mrs. Benjamin, a 1945 graduate of P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville, attended the former Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) in Tallahassee, Florida and ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature from the University of Florida in Gainesville. She married her husband, Ben, in 1947 and has resided with him in Oak Ridge since 1950 during his career as an Organic Chemist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Two years before his retirement, she opened a successful arts and crafts shop which the couple operated for 20 years in the Greenwich Village Mall. The daughter of an English professor, Pat was well known for her free-form poetry and her love of music. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Ben M. Benjamin, her younger brother, Robert T. Mounts of Seoul, Korea, and three sons, Bruce, Patrick and Michael Benjamin and their families. A Memorial Service will be held at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on Sunday, November 7 at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mrs. Benjamin's name to the American Heart Association.
