Actor. He was an American film actor and stuntman starting in the 1930s. In films, he appeared in over 70 minor roles, such as a cowboy, gangster, armed guard, and more. To name a few, he was one of the stunt drivers in the famed car-chase scene in the 1968 Steve McQueen film "Bullitt" and the mostly unseen truck driver in the Steven Spielberg 1971 thriller "Duel." The acclaimed stunt driving in the 1971 drive-in cult favorite "Vanishing Point" was also performed by Loftin. Born William Carey Loftin, he was riding a motorcycle by age ten. He was an excellent mechanic. By the age of 19, he was a member of a traveling motorcycle stunt show. His last major stunt was driving a truck in the film, "Black Dog," which was released posthumously in 1998.
