Born in 1943 to Robert and Adelaide, twin brother of Bobby. Served in the Army from 1962-65. From there attended pierce Jr. College, and worked for Septa. Married Denise Ciervo on Nov. 18, 1972. Became father to Christopher Ronald on July 15, 1974. Struggled mightily with fidelity and his sexual identity. Separated from Denise in 1980, having failed to overcome his sexual identity crisis. Diagnosed with HIV in 1986. Kept mum about his illness, in spite of having numerous illnesses that were later believed to be AIDS related. When diagnosed, was employed by Kerr Steamship company. Left there in 1987 to work for the Masonic Temple of Philadelphia, downtown, across from city hall, an area that he loved. Became very ill in September of 1994, his son finally learning about his fathers illness through doctors. Never returned to work. Fought hard to try to regain strength, but kept suffering setbacks, and mild strokes as well. Became a grandfather to Austin Ray on June 29, 1995. It was then he accepted his fate, and became at peace with it. Ronald Hayes finally succumbed to AIDS on August 18, 1995, having fought HIV for 9 long years. He lies at peace in Northwood.
