CHESTER - Ruth Irene Ballentine passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Chester River Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was 69.

Ruth Ballentine was born Jan. 29, 1938, in Freeburg, Pa., to the late Harold Pheasant and Doris A. Mengel. She graduated from West Snyder High School in McClure, Pa. She married Jay Norman Ballentine Jr. in 1957 and lived in Limestone, Maine, while Jay worked in the Air Force. They moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., before moving to Glen Burnie and Jefferson, where she raised her family. In 1991, they moved to Chester.

Ruth enjoyed ceramics and was very active in the Galilee Lutheran Church, where she played piano and was in the Women's Guild. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Kent Island Senior Center.

Ruth Ballentine is survived by her husband, Jay N. Ballentine Jr. of Chester; two daughters, Constance House and her husband David of Jefferson, and Susan Ballentine of Chester; two sons, Jay Ballentine III of Linthicum and Michael Ballentine and his wife Sandra of Pasadena; five grandchildren, Rebecca Stine and her husband Charles, Jessica Tyler and her husband Ray, Erin House, Tena Crouch and Steven Meyer; and four great-grandchildren, Skyler Stine, Tyler Stine, Devyn Tyler and Jordan Crouch.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Galilee Lutheran Church, 2710 Cecil Drive in Chester, where friends may call one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A., 106 Shamrock Road in Chester. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Stevensville Cemetery.
