DEATH OF MRS. LULA BARNES APPLEWHITE
Mrs. Lula Barnes Applewhite, wife of Dr. W. W. Applewhite of Bassfield died at the family home in that town last Saturday night following illness of many months. Deceased was a native of Marion County and was born and reared a short distance south to Columbia and was a daughter of the late Harris and Mrs. Annette Barnes. In early womanhood she was married to Dr. Applewhite and moved to Santee, Covington County, now Bassfield where she took a leading part in all matters pertaining to the church, the school and the general welfare of the community and the county. She became a member of the Methodist Church here during her girlhood school days. Surviving are the bereaved husband, a daughter Miss Irene of Bassfield and the following sons, Clyde Applewhite, Hattiesburg, Prof. L.H. Applewhite, Prentiss, Harry Applewhite, Bassfield, Perry Applewhite, Birmingham, Al., Louis Applewhite, Los Angeles, Cal., Woodward Applewhite, New Orleans, La., Chas C. Barnes, brother of Northfield, and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Burkett, and Mrs. J. W. Cochran, Birmingham, Al., and Mrs. D. W. Brinson, Bastrop, La., and a half sister, Mrs. Mattie David of Wanilla. The funeral and interment was held at Bassfield.
