Mrs. Effie Mae Buffum, wife of Curtis Buffum, died suddenly Tuesday morning at her home, three miles south of town, while getting breakfast. Dr. Welch was summoned, but she died just as he got there.
She was born south of Cuba, about a mile from where she died, July 29, 1881, a daughter of John Preston and Margaret (Harris) Wheeler, and was married May 26, 1900, to Curtis Buffum, who survives together with five sons, Wilbur of Elmhurst, John of Chicago, Rollo of Canton, Ernest with the navy at San Francisco, and Carroll, with the army at Bradley Field, Conn.; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Waughtel of Lewistown, Mrs. Clyde Huffman of Prairie City, Mrs. Donald Deakin of Cuba and Miss Marjorie Buffum of Burlington, Iowa; five grandchildren; a brother, Joe Wheeler of Canton; and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Wilson of Macomb, Mrs. John France of Smithfield, Mrs. Lizzie Payne of Chicago and Mrs. Rhoda Payne of East Peoria. One daughter died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 at the Taylor Memorial chapel, conducted by Rev. C.L. Clason and burial will be in Cuba cemetery. The body was taken to the home Wednesday night, where friends may call until the hour of the funeral. A son Carroll, arrived from a training camp in Conn. Last night.
