The family moved to Cairo, Illinois by 1866 moving west. Newspaper accounts show the family was in Jacksboro, Jack County, Texas by 1879.

William Skidmore married Miss Mary Spencer on 23 July 1877 at Antelope, Texas. To this union, 11 children were born, five of whom died in infancy. The other children were at home at his death.

The family moved west and were in Farmer, Texas by 1888 according to the Farmer newspaper. The family headed north into Indian Territory by 1893 living first near Geary in Canadian County, Oklahoma. The family moved back to Olney in 1909.

Survived by his wife; six children - Oscar Skidmore, Bill Skidmore, Walter Eli Skidmore, Bert Skidmore, Mrs. Minnie Wood; Mrs. Anna Hodges; two brothers - John Skidmore and Lee Skidmore.
