On August 2, 1942, Bob was united in marriage with Tommie Dorein Miller in Reno, Nevada and to this union one son, Michael Leroy Guthrie, was born.
In October 1942, Bob enlisted in the Army and was sent overseas to fight during World War II. Bob was in the 15th Infantry and served seven campaigns from Africa throughout Europe.
Bob and Tommie lived in Harper, Kansas for awhile and then moved to Alaska. While in Alaska, Bob worked for the commissary as a butcher and built numerous cabins for people on Big Lake outside Anchorage, Alaska to support his family.
They returned to Harper in 1962 where Bob cut meat for his father-in-law at Cather's Grocery (later Mac's Grocery). He served as the cemetery sexton for several years while working as a butcher. Later he worked for the City of Harper as the City Coordinator where he retired in 1985. He kept busy during retirement as a handyman and enjoyed serving the people in the community.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents,his wife, Tommie, his son Michael L. Guthrie; three sisters: Evelyn, Teri and Jackie; four brothers: Royce, Don, Glen, and Floyd.
He will be missed by his daughter –in-law Joyce Guthrie of Norfolk, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Todd Guthrie and his wife Jessica of Gilbert, Arizona and Michelle Gilmore and her husband Troy of Springfield, Illinois; four great-grandchildren Nicholas, Jacob, and Levi Guthrie and Maisie Gilmore; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends
