Jewett Nye was the son of Sewell Sero and Anna L. Nutting Nye and a direct descendant (Elisha, Elisha, Joseph, Peleg, John) of Benjamin and Katherine Tupper Nye.

Benjamin Nye sailed, at the age of 15, from Plymouth, England to America in 1635 with Edmund Freeman's company aboard the "Abigail". Rev. Thomas Tupper and his daughter, Katherine, were also passengers aboard the "Abigail" and in 1637 they removed to Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts where, on October 19, 1640, Katherine and Benjamin Nye were married. It was the first wedding held in the old Tupper homestead. Benjamin Nye was one of the first 50 men to settle in Sandwich and his house still stands as a museum.

Jewett Nye married Ella A. Dougherty.

He was the brother of Sewell Nye (Find a Grave Memorial #36650118), Bowen M. Nye (Find a Grave Memorial #61102379) and Eugene McFarland Nye (Find a Grave Memorial #61141829)
